Green Policy
Willowgate Activity Centre is Part of the Tay & Earn Trust and are committed to lowing our impact on the local area and world. We are also committed to developing the River Tay for leisure use and supporting its environment.
Its important to us that responsible access and tourism is right at the forefront of the work we do at Willowgate. Supporting people to access the river responsibly and doing their part to preserve it is a key part of our charitable aims and ethics.
With this in mind we are committed to lowering our carbon footprint and being part of the solution to a greener world.
Responsible usage
As an organisation we work hard to reduce our waste where possible and recycle as much as we can. We aim not to use single use plastics where possible and work with other companies and organisation who have similar ethics. All office paper is recycled and aim to reduce paper and printing to almost nothing over the next few year. How have we done this;
- All risk awareness forms have now gone online to avoid the need for paper copies
- All event scorecards have been printed, laminated and can be reused over and again.
- Systems have all moved online to avoid the need to print additional paper
- Marketing is done in the most sustainable ways which reduce wastage where possible.
Pick it up Perth Campaign
Plastic pollution is a big challenge to the current environment and its start in the rivers and streams, we run our Pick It Up Perth Campaign that sees us offer free Litter pick paddles on the last Sunday of every month where members of the public and team work together to remove as much litter from the river as possible. Join us now on one of these trips!
As part of our daily kayak tour program our instructor team also pick up as much as they can whenever they are on the river.
Keep Scotland Beautiful Anchor Group
We are proud to be an anchor group for the River Tay Upstream Challenge in Partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Working towards a greener centre!
We are committed to lowing our impact and as I write this, we are working towards making the centre more energy efficient and moving towards only using sustainable forms of energy. We are currently working towards imputing solar panels in to support the centres electrical needs and running air source heat pumps to keep the team warm over the winter months.
Environmental education
Picking up litter and working towards becoming carbon neutral is really important to us but we need to educate people on why these things are important. Because of this we have a environmental education program that focuses on teaching people about the local area and how we can look after this, this program includes activities such as Bee keeping, bird box making, beaver trips, life cycle of the salmon, the water cycle, reporting invasive species and much more!
Cycle to work employer
We are delighted to say we are an official cycle to work employer and encourage all our team where possible to cycle and use our fleet of bikes for their commute and social needs.
