Willowgate to Newburgh (Kayak, Paddleboard)

Kayak

Our Newburgh kayak tour is a popular tour for people wanting the next step up, from our Taster Experience, or the Perth City Kayak Tour. It's a little further, at 10km, but the trip normally whizzes by like a dream, with the tide and wind behind us, helping us on our way. The tour is suitable for beginners as long as they're up for a bit of a challenge.

Our touring, specific, sit on top, kayaks will do a lot of the work for you, with their sleek shape and skeg, they're designed to go straight, gliding through the water with ease. If you're up for something a little easier, then our tandem kayaks are a great alternative. Double the people, means double the power! They're also great if one of you wants to take photos, take it easier, or maybe you've got a young person you want to help along the way.

The Newburgh tour has plenty of possibilities for exploring the river bank along the way, with small islands to go around and channels to discover. The history along the river is also a great talking point, as we'll pass many old fishing bothies, the old Tay Salmon Fisheries storage shed, Elcho Castle, as well as the house of the visionary who started our charity (Tay & Earn Trust), the late David Clarke.

Please note, the journey finishes at Newburgh Slipway and paddlers must organise their own transport home or back to Willowgate. Most people solve this by dropping a car off in Newburgh before the tour, getting a friend to pick them up or simply getting the bus back to Perth.

A great tour, with a great personality. Why not start your adventure now!

Paddleboard

A 10km paddleboard journey taking you from small river to large estuary.

The Newburgh tour is a great paddleboard journey. The 10km distance requires paddlers to have experience paddleboarding on short journeys as well as confidence in standing and paddling forwards effectively. Our guides will be there every step of the way to help give you tips and tricks to make you even better paddleboarders.

As you leave Willowgate you'll hopefully enjoy the wind on your back as you drift past Kinnoull Hill and the surrounding area. Before long, you'll have turned the corner and be looking down the river towards the River Earn and Newburgh. Once passing the River Earn you'll notice the river gets gradually wider, and if the weather is less favourable this is where we'll put our skills to the test. There's wonderful views of the Perthshire countryside and paddleboarders can enjoy some rest stops on the old stone fishing beats as we pass.

As we come into Newburgh you'll see the town sat picturesquely climbing up the hillside until we land at Newburgh slipway.

For this tour you are welcome to use your own board, or use one of our specifically designed touring boards. These boards are 14ft (Voyager) and 11ft (Wild) and their longer than normal length help not only with stability but also with your ability to glide through the water maintaining forwards direction.

We strongly believe in helping people develop their paddleboarding skills so if you're unsure whether or not this trip is for you please don't hesitate to get in touch to discuss if it's right for you (as it most likely is!).

Please note, the journey finishes at Newburgh Slipway and paddlers must organise their own transport home or back to Willowgate. Most people solve this by dropping a car off in Newburgh before the tour, getting a friend to pick them up or some get the bus back to Perth.

Grab a paddle, jump on the board and let's go... Newburgh here we come!
