Become one of our Instructors :)

 In Uncategorised

We’re looking to grow our family of instructors here at Willowgate and have opportunities for a range of different experiences. From people who would like to take their first step into the outdoor industry as well as those with a few seasons under their belt.

Based in the centre of Perth, Willowgate is a charity which offers a whole range of different activities to a big slice of our community. No two days are the same, and we have some of the most loyal and friendly customers an organisation could ask for. That paired with a great team who are fun, hardworking and inclusive makes us think it’s a pretty good place to work! Like most outdoor centres, summer is our busiest time, so we need a few more team members to get us through the busiest bits.

  • Help instructors set up and put away activities
  • Help ensure all equipment is repaired, clean and in the correct place
  • Help to keep the activity centre tidy and clean

Who we’re looking for:

  • Above all we’re looking for someone with great people skills and excellent customer service.
  • You’ll need heaps of enthusiasm and a strong love for the outdoors.
  • Ideally you will have tried a variety of watersports and other outdoor sports in the past and loved it
  • You’ll need to be happy working outside and not afraid of getting your hands dirty!
  • This is suited to someone looking to work in the outdoor industry as we will provide qualifications to you as and when you are ready for them
  • The Kickstarter role has some conditions including being on universal credit and being under 25. See here for more details. This role will have even more of an emphasis on development, training and qualifications.

Activity Instructor

The role:

  • Work independently with groups of up to 8 adults or children instructing a variety of outdoor sports including paddlesports, archery & bushcraft
  • A large part of the role will be instructing our popular Adventure Days for groups of up to 8 children. These days have a range of activities, 50% on the water (SUP, Canoe, Kayak etc.) and 50% on land (Archery, Bushcraft, Team Building, Orienteering etc.) with lunch in the middle.
  • Clean & maintain equipment e.g. disinfecting wetsuits, repairing broken equipment etc.
  • It’s a casual contract with hours/days changing as the summer business builds. We would expect this to be 5 days a week during our peak season (June, July & August), with a gradual build up and quietening either side of this.
  • This role would be suited to someone who is new or has a few seasons experience in the outdoors industry and is looking for more experience in delivering a range of activities.
  • A more experienced instructor will take a lead on delivering 5 week and 1 day courses as well as running river tours along the Tay, Taster Sessions and working with complex needs groups.
  • We are dedicated to training and upskilling our staff and would work with you to create a plan of how to achieve this

Who we’re looking for:

  • Above all we’re looking for someone with great people skills and excellent customer service.
  • You’ll need heaps of enthusiasm and a strong love for the outdoors.
  • Experience working with both adults and children
  • A large part of the role will be working with children, so past experience in this area is especially important: we need someone who can entertain kids with games, be a good role model, cater for different ages & personalities all whilst making sure everyone is staying safe and happy.
  • A knowledge and a love for paddlesports (kayak, canoe & SUP) is key, as well as general outdoor skills e.g. fire lighting, archery etc.
  • Ideally you will have your Paddle Sports Instructor (or equivalent), however for the right personality, we can help you to achieve this.
  • You will need a 16 hour first aid qualification before starting work.
